I just don't like how some author's draw it out. Also, more often than not it turns into filler. If the MC is in chains then the stuff they were working on before doesn't move forward. It can be done right though. Like what story marc said, switching to passive can move things along faster. It also makes it less disturbing.

Mushoku Tensei (Yeah I know, harem) does a good job where they get captured on purpose so that the young miss can get over herself while they are being captive. The plot actually advances there. But the last book I read, just really rubs in the despair and I hate that. I don't read books for the mental movie of them being in manacles and beaten saying they are going to be property now get used to it.

Mushoku started out so well, but it was a letdown for me after being whisked away. Also, the harem thing did not click with me.

I read the light novel a while back, to be honest, the granny elf made me learn what NTR was. Wish I never read it.
