You think that this would bother me but finding a snake (specifically a cotton mouth or water moccasin) in the toilet was common where I grew up as it was a hot swampy area. I don't have a problem with snakes as they are predictable. I would just check the toilet before sitting down. With my boots I can't see that far inside of it so I would have to check for it in some other manner.

It almost happened to me when I was trying out some of my mum's shoes.
The one shoe I decided not to try on ended up having a massive spider the size of my palm in it.
