I experience it every day at my work place, at the store and online, like on this forum.

People don't want realism in stories. They just want stuff that doesn't make them cringe. Though, they pretend they want realism.

I am reminded of the misunderstanding trope, and how people always say that wouldn't really happen. In real life, that happens half the time people talk to each other.
