I got an observation. Hear me out.
Had an idea for a story and was told it was gratuitous. Found out that word is not objective, it's subjective depending on the person's preference, which is the issue.
But then I learned a lesson that seems to be the most important one: it depends on the market. A "gratuitous" story can become quite popular. Examples: Lolita, everything Stephen King writes, Game of Thrones.
So I learned the most important lesson, and it's important to me: money talks, bullshit walks.
"Why are you saying this, dragonpig?"
I don't know, I just had an epiphany.
