Go for it. See what happens. And good luck.
What happens is someone will like your stories so much and turn you into a taxidermy.Go for it. See what happens. And good luck.
Eldoria,Personally, I'm drawn to contemporary fiction. However, that's probably a minority opinion. If you're chasing popularity on the platform, your fiction will likely be very niche.
On SH, fantasy fiction is more popular. I've compromised as a writer by incorporating contemporary fiction issues into the fantasy fiction.
Readers can enjoy it as an imaginative story. But behind the story lies a deeper meaning relevant to current modern issues.
It's my compromise as a writer. You may have other opinion. Please write the story that you want.

Don't wanna be that famous. What happens is someone will like your stories so much and turn you into a taxidermy.
You're welcome!Eldoria,
I'm ever so grateful for your words.
You hit the nail by the head.
And I did ask myself the question whether I should chase popularity on SH. Of course I did.
Then I realised that my goal was not fame or glory but rather being heard however small the audience might be.
I’m glad to keep telling this story for the small group of readers it resonates with.
Although I post new chapters weekly, The Shape of Kindness is ready and I don't have the heart to change anything at this stage.
I do have ideas for a fiction with some fantasy elements gently woven into the story. This might be my next undertaking. Might not.
I admire my fellow authors here on SH who can continue to bring something new to a story even after 100 chapters and can keep entertaining their audience. I truly do. But that is just not me.
My favourite stories are the ones that take me on a complete journey, that is, a clear start, a real conflict, and an ending that feels like it belongs to the tale.

I'm mildly alarmed by the taxidermy scenario. If my story inspires that level of enthusiasm, I’ll take it as a compliment and run (very fast).
