I've nearly gotten this one scammer convinced to give up their resume to me so I can look it over and see if DC Comics or Marvel might want to look at their portfolio.

Let's see what happens.
Ah, scamming a scammer, are we? Some would argue that makes us no better than them. But ignore all those people, they deserve this. Do it!

I just want to know how far they take things. If we get into their minds and observe their actions, it makes them that much easier to spot and report. I'm not scamming anyone. I work with talented artists who still get gigs with DC comics and Marvel time to time. ?

"Hello, the way you crafted the story shows great care and talent."

My response:

"Thank you.
Your message was well thought out, with all the good points illustrated significantly in such a way I can overlook the few shortcomings of my story.
You have yourself a really nice day." *clicks report*

I'm just not fucking around anymore. ?

1.) The "person" doesn't mention the story title. 2.) "great care and talent"? Really? 3.) Their reading list is empty. This is a genuine, bona-fide art bot. These are the things you should look for and report right away. I hope others will remember these warning signs, and report immediately. If we honestly all just do our part, we might not be able to eliminate bots, but...we can see to it they have a VERY short life span.

I started writing a story, and after just the first chapter, I've gotten 4 DMs, 3 of them feel like they are written by an AI, and 2 of them are literally identical. On the second chapter, I've got a comment that really feels like it was written by an AI. Is this normal for SH? Is it flooded by bots? Or are these mostly likely humans that just use perfect grammar in a DM/comment for whatever reason? Also, most of the accounts were made within the past 2 weeks.
Yes, but we need them to keep our engagement up

From my experience, most bots and also most obvious bots are on WN. SH has fairly low in comparison.

The worst thing about scammers is that they do not only target famous authors, who know how to detect and deal with their bullshit. They also target the most vulnerable people and new authors in need of validation, exploiting them using flattery.

Still, scammers often drop a favorite on a chapter in your story, hoping to entice you. And it is very easy to detect them, even without prior knowledge.

I didn't know it was common here. I made this acount 4 days ago and started posting my story. I got 2 messages from two accounts that no longer exist. What do they expect?

I got two identical messages from 2 separate accounts as the second response in a message. Essentially it went “I like your story!” “<3“ “I have some suggestions for your story. Do you have a discord or insta? We should chat there it is more convenient.

In my experience, bots are more common here than readers. Not tossing any accusations, but scroll down to the comment section: https://www.scribblehub.com/read/1950602-overcome/chapter/2047476/

There are no favorite on this chapter except mine. This story can't even get people to reply in https://forum.scribblehub.com/forums/story-feedback.14/ (I tried twice). It's that trash and an indicator of my failure.

Why do the bots do it? They go after everyone, but primarily after the less known authors. Why? We often are socially isolated, lacking RL experience. Any validation could come as a blessing. And they use it, luring persons in with honeyed words, then ripping them off with their "guidance, AI covers, and methods" that can lead to shadow-bans. But they won't care, since they already got profit off an author.

Basically, they expect you to be inexperienced and stupid if you lack a huge following. Large authors are too smart to fall for that, nor are they insecure, unlike, say, me.
