I second the idea of daydreaming in the world and its characters. I also recommend reverse plotting so you know where the story is going right from the start.
I did some cursory searches to see if this was a thing - but it would be nice to be able to transfer chapters from one story to another. Let's say you have a collection of short stories - but one gets enough likes that you think it could be expanded. You could transfer it to a new novel...
Are you getting into a habit of writing a little every day?
Are you outlining the plot? Is there enough story for the story?
Are you daydreaming about the characters and what they're doing right now? What do you see them doing in your daydreams?
