What are some of your favorite story openings (Author's Edition)

I like a direct approach, something that will directly show the reader the tone of the story. For exemple, 'I Blinked And Now I'm Famous' starts like this : The pandemic. In 2019, it was like a wave of fear and despair that swept over the world and left no one untouched. People were sick, a lot...

Bonjour, I'm a new author and i search advice.

Bonjour fellow insomniac ! For me, what helps me form genuine interactions is : 1- Observe around you. Listen to the discussions you are having with your friends, to the things people actually say, and when you feel that your characters could totally say something like that, write it down...

Trueeeee ! You just gave me so many ideas, I need to make use of the horseboys, they are so fun I didn't think about it, but that's a good idea ! And that could laynch another plot point about her credibility... That's good ! I'm taking everything and the chapters are forming in my head...

    Help with plot point

Oooh yeah, playing even more of the victim and 'good person' card by refusing to talk on the issue despite the abuse she suffered can be really good ! With a few PR statements, telling a few happy childhood memories with the step-mother and shedding a few tears, there is a way for the fans to go...

    Help with plot point

The recordings are explained in the story because she has an older sister (who was the abused one, but she was strong-willed and wasn't about to suffer through that, so she left first and never even went back to the country, thus the step-mother needed a new scapegoat to vent on and it fell on...

    Help with plot point

Hello, I am reaching a point where one of the plot points driving the story is wrapping up, letting more space unfold for the next shenanigan. However, I need some help to wrap it up nicely, as my tired brain can't think properly. Warning : This will spoil a lot of the story if you are...

What makes you love your fiction?

I don't know. I just have brain juices and they are flowing out. And then later I read and actually get engaged in the story, want to read the next chapter and then realize there is no next chapter because the author didn't finish this story. It's me, I'm the author. So I let the brain juices...

    Doing Word Wars

Oh, I love the nano ! I did it quite a lot. Most times I didn't succeed, but I still made a lot of progress on my novels. I did finish one however, was it 5 years ago ? A really good experience Those type of challenges don't work with everyone, being regular is hard for most people

    Doing Word Wars

Hi ! So on this French forum for authors we used to do this thing everyday called Word Wars. It's half a game and half a productive race. The rules are simple : You have 15 minutes to write as much as possible, and after 15 minutes we stop and compare who wrote more. It's just a dumb thing...
