If you can't go for quality, then go for quantity. Is this the case with novels too?

I'm thinking if your work is average when compared to others, then if you write more chapters, will it get more readers?

I guess. But it really depends on your moral compass. Also, do you really care about reader views if you aren't doing something with them?
The best thing to do imo is build a following / list that you can use for future work.
Views for vanity sake and "rankings" really don't mean much in the long run.

Well, the truth is that it probably will get you more readers because grinding out more chapters out maximizes the amount of time your story is on the front page and if you get enough people clicking on your story, you can snowball your story onto the trending tab, which will get even more people clicking on it. Also, people tend to like stories with more content, so if you have a high chapter number it can incentivize people to check it out. Although, if you want to retain readers, I think focusing on quality would be better as personally I would rather read a few chapters that are good than dozens of chapters that are bad, and I think most people would agree.

I will be frank, I am a fussy person, if you keep cranking chapters with no substance, it will feel like I am reading one of those CN novels again and drop the work.

But since SH only counts on those who clicks on the link instead of continuous readers, you will probably get a high reader count even if your first few chapters are hot garbage.

I got more readers who dont have an account, like the views just like crazy but the readers still less than 150. And i guess my novel just an average, there's nothing special like good quality :blob_frown:

You know, if you see youself as an average writer, it's fine. But definitely, don't stay 'average'. Churn out your chapters as the best you could give.

Somehow, some readers will see your hard work, rather than having hundreds of chapters with no substance.

See, I see myself as an 'average' writer too. And one look at my story's stats, you could say that it's not the blockbuster novel I wished it would be.

However, my few readers appreciate my story because I do my best in writing those chapters. I'd spend days planning my plot and execution.

I feel that many of the writers will tell you "Never spit out quantity always go for quality".

And I would say the same, except for one little detail.

As writers, we have limits.

I won't speak for others, but I have come to understand that I am a bad writer- at least from the opinions of the public, who get to decide whether my story is good or not.

I do put thought and effort into each chapter, to the point where when I reread it I am astonished and satisfied many times, yet that satisfaction is one sided and only shared by myself and a few loyal readers. But you know what? That's fine. I enjoy my work, and even if I know that it's bad, that doesn't stop me from enjoying it. And isn't that the only real compass I have as an author?

Sure. I could look at the views and readers and say "Oh no! Compared to the other stories my story has barely and views despite having so much content! What ever should I do!?!? Should I give up as a writer?? Or should I trash the series and begin with a new premise that's better!?"

Well yeah, I could do either of those. But here's the thing.

I enjoy my story. That is my one and only compass as a writer.

If I read my story and found myself yawning, then I would know.

"Hey loser. Your story sucks. This part is boring. Get rid of it. Or change it. Or do something to make it more interesting."

But the thing is, that doesn't happen.

How am I supposed to improve something when my little tunnel visioned mind doesn't see anything to improve?

I've gone off on a tangent here. My point is, if you're writing for the money, then you probably won't be able to enjoy your own writing because you have to tailor your story to certain viewers, even if you don't like the direction it goes. Even then, how can you make a story enjoyable if you yourself don't enjoy it? An impossible task. So we are left with a decision. 1. Either have taste that fits the public, or 2. Don't expect a large audience.

On your question regarding views, which is what this whole thread is supposed to be about, I will tell you this.

After releasing over 200 chapters, my view count is a fraction of some of the good writers. Even considering that I have 200 chapters to total up views across, while they have maybe 30.

But I refuse to stop.

I love my series to death, and enjoy it so damn much that I will write and write and write until it is done. No matter how few people read it. Why?

Because I am an author.

I feel you. I, myself doubt a lot and worry about how my series goes, but everytime I upload and see at least one comment thanking, it makes me think. "It was worth writing, planning and uploading this series".

Yes.

You can actually get a descent amount of readers as long as you keep the quality consistent. Of course you might not get any readers if your story is bad enough, but if your story is just good enough or even just mediocre, many would actually read it. If you keep the quality in that range then these readers would gladly continue. Problems only happen when the quality drops (also happens if your writing improves then drop back) and fail to go back up.

How to get a QUICK Readers 101 with NotYourTypicalMan
Quantity over Quality? nah
Quality over Quantity? also not.

Add a smut tag and GL/BL Yes
Add some sexy thot cover Yes
Actually agree to this. SH kinda becomes a hub for these people. It is easier to gather readers if you appeal to the majority.

“Quantity has a quality all its own”
- Thomas A. Callaghan

That said, I still think you have to meet a minimum quality requirement even if it is very low. And there is no point in producing a lot if your readership drops off a cliff because the first chapter is a complete turn-off from further reading.

There's lots of discussion on how to make a good first chapter out there but Imo it's mostly about the hook. Get a good hook and quantity over quality becomes a lot more viable.
