"No offense taken. How's everything so far? Getting used to the academy?"

Well, if it's someone from the Student Council, then that narrows it down a lot...oh, well.

"So far, so good. I believe everything isn't as bad as I previously thought."

The headmaster isn't an insane gentleman who turns students into dolls. That's a start. Hopefully, things would remain peaceful in the academy. Although Elizabeth doubted it.

If her school life is a game, it would be a stealth-action one focused in eliminating rivals. To pass as a normal female student, she need to keep her sanity as high as possible and avoid any suspicious behaviour.

However, she have no idea how wrong she is. This is an otome game, after all. Not some kind of an unfinished simulation game.

"Hoh."

There was a twinkle in Swir's eye.

"Give it time. But with that sort of mindset, you would do well in...no, nevermind, it's still too early for that. So what are you planning to specialize in, Elizabeth?"

"I don't know... but I got a map." He pulled out a folded paper from his pocket and looked for the building that says library. "Yeah. It's not far from here. Let's go."

He stood up and left the cafeteria with Eudes.
After some time, both of them arrived at the library. Eudes could not help but feel relieved. For once, he did not waste too much time before arriving at his destination. Him getting lost somehow is fortunate! If he didn't get lost, he wouldn't have gotten any breakfast! Breakfast before anything else! That's perfec-- okay, let's stop there.

"Ah, finally. Let's visit it and see what books they're letting us read!"
Now, this occurrence is still flawed. Since that is how he will forget that he has to change his schedule.

"I'm not planning to specialize in anything right now. What about you? Runes, I presume?"

No plans survive contact with the enemy, after all. No sense making them. Elizabeth's entire existence is also unplanned to the point that her parents doesn't know what to do about her other than the obvious.

After me and my 'not yet to be close friend,' Eudes arrived at the library. He shot himself and vanished between bookshelves.

'Ah. There he goes. I hope he doesn't get lost.'

I walked to the magic section and picked up the history and basics of each element. I found that the light element viewed as holy magic and dark magic depicted as evil magic just like the various game I played in the past life.

'Good thing is that statement is only labelled in the old religious books. Therefore, I shouldn't have any problem choosing dark magic as my specialist. Using dark magic to erase dust and rubbish in my room would be a great way to do housework.'

"It would be more accurate to call it a pastime which I am somewhat proficient in. Runic research is pretty interesting, but it burns through raw materials like crazy, and aren't nearly as ideal for spontaneous situations. But it does have it's good points."

Swir finished off the contents of her cup, and started piling everything on the tray to be returned.

"Well, I'd best go grab something from the greenhouse before it's all gone. See you around."

Eudes proceeded to get lost in the library. His goal was not actually to read at the moment, but to see the size of the library. For instance, there seem to be higher floors, but how many? It is what he decided to discover on his own. Likely, if he just asked the librarian, he would have a clear and concise answer but...

It's always better to do something by yourself, is it not?!
In any case... he climbed up to the first floor, skimmed through the shelves until-- he accidentally sees a book on poison and stuff. That is always interesting to know-- unfortunately.
"Bah, I don't get it! There must be a simpler one below."

His original purpose was cast away and he headed back downstairs to search for a book related to poison. Why? Because of curiosity! What else?

Swir stood at the entrance of the greenhouse. She could see that some of the plants she'd wanted had been harvested already, causing the girl to click her tongue.

...I keep getting the feeling that I've forgotten something. The library books are returned, the assignments have been submitted, the experiments are awaiting submission and I'm collecting the materials right now...so what did I forget? Maybe I'll go to the library after this...

Deciding to focus on the task at hand, she entered the glass building. Immediately the sensation of being watched was on her back, causing her to tense up.

"...Better not dwell on it for too long in here. I'll need some more reagents for frost runes..."

Sometimes, a diary reminder evidently wasn't enough, for the distracted third-year had forgotten (again) to lock her dorm door that morning.

Aurora brought her books back after failing miserably to appropriate them. But on the bright side, she could read them inside the library. At least not everything was lost. And she didn't get any punishment despite her flagrant attempt to steal books.

Aurora sighed in relief. And even better, the evil president seems to have gone. Veronica left the library. She is nowhere to be found and the librarian is peacefully sleeping over her desk.

Aurora grinned mischievously. It was time for operation steal books II.

Aurora approached one of the less frequented bookshelves. The books were not restricted per se, but most of them were ... special. Most of them were written in unknown gibberish, an amalgamation of ancient languages whose meaning has long since lost t the sands of time.

The truth was that even scholars and the academy had no idea what the majority of these unmarked books were about. Some were half way readable with the according foundation in ancient tongue, while others remained completely undecipherable. Everything could be hidden inside these shelves, which of course caught Aurora's attention.

She browsed through the collection before, and she found a little treasure, an elemental grimoire.

Aurora touched the grimoire. Upon contact, the book gave off a subdued darkish purple glow. Aurora could feel the magical power running through its pages through every letter of papery existence.

Auora opened the front page and read aloud," Ignis ... denn sie wussten nicht was sie tun ..."

Aurora smiled and pressed the grimoire against her chest. This was her book now. She even scribbled her name on it when nobody looked. "Possession of Aurora von Schwarz. Family heirloom. Please return when found!"

Aurora received 1x Ancient Elemental - potentially cursed - Grimoire

Elizabeth saw Swir tense up, she wondered why. It's not like she is going to approach her senior gently and start piercing her carotid artery, subclavian artery, or descending aorta. Right? Watching normal people is fun, but it doesn't explain their behaviours. There must be a reason for every actions or inactions.

I need more information. If the school's library doesn't have anything useful, then it shouldn't be allowed to exist.

Aurora headed for her base and hid her newly acquired grimoire well, under her pillow. That was a good hiding place. She had the feeling that she would sleep well today, wouldn't she ...

Aurora halted. She noticed one of the dorm doors wasn't locked. Aurora blinked. Of course, she was a good girl and would never ...

Aurora entered the room of her senior girl, closing the door behind her. She scanned the room with KGB like efficiency, with success she might add.

Auora interesting research material, her research material. A little compendium and lots of notes about the working of runes. And a diary.

She wouldn't look ...

Aurora looked. And what she found was ...

A little while later, Swir was holding a small bundle of plants and preparing to head out of the greenhouse when she spotted two plants that she particularly needed, and had to stifle a laugh. The excited girl then made her way over and carefully harvested one of them, taking care not to damage the material. She then reached out for the second...

Goddammit. Would it hurt to let me take one more piece?

Strictly speaking, Swir had already gone quite past the amount of plants she was allowed to harvest. The only reason she was still able to walk out was because the girl occasionally came back and added more species of fauna into the greenhouse, so one eye could be closed to a certain extent. But there was still a limit.

Oh, for f*ck's sake...

As the feeling of being watched intensified further, Swir reluctantly withdrew her outstretched hand and abruptly left, keeping her precious harvest in a bundle under her arm. It wasn't until she'd disappeared around the corner had the girl breathed a sigh of relief, holding up a single leaf in her hand. Glowing runes on it's surface fragmented and disappeared.

The plain-looking diary was bound with but a single strip of leather, and was not under enchantment of any sort. The edges and fringes were worn from use, the lettering yellowed with age, but the title could still be seen, albeit with slight difficulty.

*Do Not Read If Not Nacht.

There was an envelope stuck between two of the pages nearing the front, opened, but the wax seal was still intact.

So this was Nacht's room. Aurora deposited the material she had picked up. She sat down on Nacht's fluffy and soft bed.

Aurora stared at the envelope. Should she read or should she not.

Should she read or should she not.

Should she read or should she not.

Aurora tilted her head cutely. She remained indecisive.

From outside the window leapt in a cat. From the looks of it, it was an adult. A decent-sized lump of pure black.

The cat regarded the young girl. It's green eyes twinkled as it sat on the floor.

"Meow."

Alba went through all the books he picked. The sun moved to directly above the building shining through the skylight.

'Ah. It's gonna be lunchtime now. I have to go change my time table after this. Where is Eudes though? Did he already left?'

Aurora blinked. "A cat ..."

Her eyes sparkled in happiness. A cat! How lovely!

Aurora neared the feline creature. It seemed to like her presence. How curious. "Oh, my fluffy friend, have you name?"

Aurora patted the cat, scratching the cat's earsies. "Wait a moment, I will give you something to eat. A cute cat like you is surely hungry."

Aurora searched the room for food. She found some milk and tuna. She gave both the cat and watched her furbally friend eating.

And now back to the diary again. Aurora read the diary.

The cat had a poker face. It was a cat.

"Meow."

It finished both items quickly, licking it's lips, before nimbly climbing onto the bed and settling onto Aurora's lap. It also knocked the envelope onto the floor, and the letter within spilled out the opened flap, lying awkwardly on the floor. The cat looked satisfied.

"Meow."

O.o Aurora wasn't sure whether she should praise her fluffy friend or not.

Aurora grinned mischievously together with her feline partner in crime. "This makes things much easier, doesn't it, nya?"

^^ "Good cat! Nya!" Aurora patted the wonderful cat. You are a saviour.

Afterward, she picked up and the envelope and started reading. What secrets did the envelope hide?

The school's library is a place where a student can seek knowledge, forbidden or not. As long as they made no excessive noise or damage any books. Elizabeth picked up a book titled "Understanding Human Behaviour: The Complete Guide to Human Behaviour, Personality Types, and Body Language Mastery", opened its first page, and closed it shut.

I don't know how I can just read the first page of a book and learn everything written inside it in under five seconds, what kind of sorcery is this? In my previous incarnation, you need to read the entire thing first.
