If it had two choices (human) and (Anything other than human) The results would change drastically. Just pointing that out.

The demand for Human Protagonists is extremely high.

Even if they transform into half-vampires, skeletons, or other creatures, their thought processes should retain a human perspective, at least temporarily.

It's effective to include relatable thoughts or actions that echo our own, which is why many Japanese isekai stories feature Japanese cooking and cultural festivals in medieval Europe—it’s an easy way to connect.

Similarly, even non-isekai fantasy stories often include elements of Japanese culture, ensuring the characters remain relatable to Japanese audiences.

It depends on what you're writing about/for.

If it's romance or smut like a lot of people in these comments are assuming, make sure their character and the story premise matches some commonly fetishized aspect of the species. Like a dragon girl might be a sugar daddy/mommy or be trying to seduce and steal money from rich people.

Otherwise, if it's anything else, think of a stereotypical characteristic of the species and match it with a premise that creates a catchy or incongruous conflict that will catch peoples attentions while also working with or twisting existing tropes. Like a ghost who possessed something and joins an adventuring party that way, or a beastkin blends in by pretending to be an overzealous furry to achieve their dreams that requires interacting with possibly racist humans.

Good luck!

Fox-girls. You know...the ones with a human face but still have the tails and ears. You know...the thing. THE THING!!!

Also Succubus. The bountiful ones.

I'm MOSTLY kidding with the Succubus thing. Mostly but not entirely. But I'm serious about the Fox-girl ones. Fuck Cat girls. Give me Foxy ladies.

I'm actually leaning toward fox monster evolution. A dash of romance, but not predom

Cute and funny succubus is nicer though. Or a shapeshifter so she can take any desired form.

Gotta go with foxgirl. Bonus points if tail is big enough for them to hug. Gotta have fluffy tail! If I see a story that is obviously about (or has a common char that is) a foxgirl, it basically guarantees that I will at least attempt to read it.
